Charlotte Brecher

Executive Pastry Chef

Charlotte Brecher is the Executive Pastry Chef of The Modern. Growing up in Michigan and Pennsylvania, Brecher found a love for baking at a young age and started a small business selling cakes in her community while in high school. This led her to pursue a dual degree in Hospitality Management and Baking & Pastry Arts at Johnson & Wales University. Between semesters at JWU, she completed an externship at Bar Boulud.

Upon graduation in 2018, Charlotte started as a Pastry Cook at Manhatta under Emma Alden who was fundamental in developing her leadership skills. In 2020, she moved to Daily Provisions where she served as the Pastry Supervisor, overseeing production of the all-day cafe’s signature crullers and baked goods. Finally, in 2021, Brecher moved to The Modern as a Pastry Sous Chef before being promoted to Executive Pastry Chef in September 2024.

At The Modern, Brecher runs the pastry department for both the restaurant and the MoMA cafés, managing a talented group of chefs and a broad pastry program. Brecher looks forward to bringing her creative creations to life at The Modern and continuing to learn new techniques that she can pass on to her team.
